The last year of my twenties deserved something unforgettable — so instead of a dinner out or a simple cake at home, I brought the Amalfi Coast to the backyard. Think endless spritzes, Mediterranean bites, and a splash of retro Riviera glamour, all under the late-summer sun.

It started with a vision: the warm oranges of Sorrento sunsets, the chic ease of Positano, and the kind of gathering where everyone lingers just a little longer, glass in hand. We strung together those dreamy coastal details until it felt like we’d been transported somewhere between Italy and the edge of a perfect pool day.

And the food? A love letter to the Mediterranean. Plates of lemony orzo, briny olives, Italian subs, and caprese skewers disappeared almost as quickly as they arrived. Dessert was pure indulgence — lemon raspberry cake and affogato, with rich espresso melting into velvety gelato, a little jolt of Italy in every bite.

For the outfit, I channeled vintage Italian holiday glamour — but make it pool-ready. My bold orange swimsuit with a white floral appliqué was topped with oversized white sunglasses and a black polka-dot scarf tied just so. It was part 1960s movie star, part “just stepped off the Amalfi ferry,” and it set the tone for a day that was as much about style as it was about celebration. My friends leaned into the theme too — breezy linens, citrus prints, and enough sunglasses to start a boutique.

By the time the sun dipped low, we were still laughing, still sipping, and still feeling like we’d been on a seaside holiday. It wasn’t just a birthday — it was a little slice of la dolce vita, right here at home.
